WE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT

Public Education Matters

Meet Rick

Who am I and why am I running for school board?

Public education matters. I grew up in an imperfect household with a hard-working, single mom and my brother. My childhood was complicated to say the least, but there was one thing that provided me with a sense of safety, comfort and stability: my school and my teachers.

Public schools provided me with education, fostered my intellectual curiosity, and offered the support I needed to fill in the gaps I had in my home life. Early on I knew that education was the path to success, and that my teachers were there to get me on that path.

What to expect from me

I plan to work for every student, every day, no matter what it takes.

So, what will I do differently if elected for School Board?

I WILL NOT BAN BOOKS

At every school board meeting I’ve attended, countless students & parents have shared that they've never been hurt by a book. In fact, just the opposite. Studies show that reading improves mental health, critical thinking skills, and even empathy.  I will fight to prevent book bans on material with literary merit.

I WILL SUPPORT LGBTQ+ STUDENTS

The statistics on the mental health of LGBTQ+ kids are alarming. 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. In our own district, many LGBTQ+ students have shared directly with administrators & school board  members that they do not feel safe in our schools. I will support our LGBTQ+ students and defend their rights within CBSD.

I WILL MAKE BETTER FINANCIAL DECISIONS

CBSD has been wasting our tax dollars on items that are a direct result of bad decision making. Just in the past school year, the District has spent over $114K on a PR firm and ~$114K for lawyers to defend harmful policies. I will not waste money on PR firms and/or law firms with political motivations.

I WILL FIGHT FOR TOP-TALENT

The teacher shortage in Pennsylvania is real. PA teacher certifications have dropped 66% over an 11-year stretch & the current hiring practices in this district also make it challenging to attract top talent. I will work to take real action to attract and retain top-notch teachers that are critical to our academic excellence.
